Bridgeport Islanders News Release
Bridgeport, CT (September 10, 2009) -- The Bridgeport Sound Tigers and the Sikorsky Fallen Heroes Committee have announced plans for a special charity softball game on October 24th at 1:00 pm at Seaside Park in Bridgeport. The game will feature the Sound Tigers front office staff taking on a team of employees from Sikorsky.
Plans for the day include a meet-and-greet autograph session with Sound Tiger team members as well as a barbecue. Admission will be free although donations to the Sikorsky Fallen Heroes Committee are appreciated.
Following the softball game, all fans are invited to attend that night's Sound Tigers contest against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at the Arena at Harbor Yard at 7:00 pm. The game will be a rematch of last year's AHL playoff series. Sikorsky employees will also have their own recognition night at Harbor Yard on January 31st when the Sound Tigers take on the Norfolk Admirals.
"Sikorsky is one of the largest employers in Fairfield County. It is important for the Sound Tigers to foster a strong relationship with them throughout the community," Sound Tigers President Howard Saffan said.
"Over the years the Sikorsky Fallen Heroes Committee has made many friends, none moreso than the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, who share their love, compassion and most of all their remembrance for our Fallen Heroes and their Gold Star Families throughout the State of Connecticut," Michael Mastroni, Chairman of the SFHC, said. "The newly forged relationship takes yet another step forward with a fun filled afternoon to raise money for the Connecticut Fallen Heroes Foundation."
The Sikorsky Fallen Heroes Committee is dedicated to "Always Remembering" the brave Military Service Members from Connecticut who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty for our freedom. On June 12th, 2010 the Sikorsky Fallen Heroes Committee will have personally, posthumously honored over twenty-five servicemen and women who gave their lives for our country.
