Bridgeport Islanders News Release
BRIDGEPORT, CT â The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, have announced "The Big One" 600 WICC will once again be the team's flagship radio station for the 2004-05 season. WICC will broadcast games that do not conflict with New York Yankees baseball or University of Connecticut basketball, as well as a Sound Tigers update every Friday morning.
"WICC is proud to be the official radio station for Bridgeport's beloved Sound Tigers and extremely happy that once again we will be broadcasting the exciting live action at Arena at Harbor Yard this year," says WICC Program Director Curt Hansen. "The Sound Tigers represent an important part of Bridgeport, and fans from the entire region should support this great team. We will do anything we can to encourage the continued success of this phenomenal hockey franchise."
"We're very happy to be back on WICC," says Director of Communications and Voice of the Sound Tigers Bill McLaughlin. "The signal strength and location will allow hockey fans throughout Connecticut and Long Island, as well as parts of New York City, upstate New York, Rhode Island and Massachusetts to listen to the games."
The Sound Tigers will also expand their marketing partnership with WICC and WEBE 108, the top-rated AM and FM stations in Fairfield County, both of which are operated by Cumulus Media.
"We really look forward to this great partnership with WICC and WEBE," says Sound Tigers Director of Marketing Jeff Patterson. "In addition to game broadcasts and weekly updates, we'll work closely with the stations to enhance our branding while getting more involved in the community."
The Sound Tigers will open the 2004-05 season on Saturday, October 16th when they host the Albany River Rats at 7:05 p.m. at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard. They will also open their four-game preseason schedule versus Albany at the Rinks at Shelton this Friday, October 1st at 7 p.m.
