
Sound Tigers Reinforce Offense with Two Additions

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (December 6, 2016 ) - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers announced today forward Kyle Schempp has been reassigned from the Missouri Mavericks (ECHL) by the New York Islanders, while forward Rocco Carzo has agreed to terms on a Professional Tryout (PTO).
Schempp, 22, recorded five points (two goals, three assists) and 14 penalty minutes in 13 games with the Mavericks this season, including his first professional goal on Nov. 5th against the Tulsa Oilers. Previously, he played three contests with the Sound Tigers earlier this season and two games with Bridgeport in 2015-16. Schempp made his pro debut with the Sound Tigers on April 9, 2016 against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
Prior to turning pro, the rookie forward notched 66 points (29 goals, 37 assists) and 62 penalty minutes in 121 games with Ferris State University. Schempp was named captain of the Bulldogs during his final season. The Saginaw, MI native also spent one season with the Traverse City North Stars (North American Hockey League) and Sioux Falls Stampede (United States Hockey League) before his three-year career at Ferris State.
Schempp, a 6'0, 178-pound forward, was originally selected by the Islanders in the sixth round (155th overall) of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.
Carzo, 25, has been one of Missouri's top offensive threats through 20 games this season, tied for the team lead with seven goals and adding seven assists for 14 points (tied for second).
A native of Media, PA, Carzo ranked third on the Mavericks in scoring last season, logging a career-best 56 points and helping Missouri win the 2016 Henry Brabham Cup as the ECHL's regular season points champion. Carzo also led the Mavericks with a career-high 41 assists and added 15 goals, 20 penalty minutes and a plus-17 rating.
Overall, Carzo has produced 161 points (58 goals, 103 assists) in 221 ECHL games with the Mavericks, Florida Everblades and Ontario Reign. The 6'1, 203-pound forward has also played eight AHL contests with the Norfolk Admirals and San Diego Gulls, including one game with the Gulls last season.
Prior to turning pro, Carzo spent four seasons at the University of Massachusetts - Amherst from 2009-13. He registered 48 points (18 goals, 30 assists) in 128 games. He was named Minutemen Rookie of the Year in 2009-10 after posting 12 points (six goals, six assists) in 32 games as a freshman.
