Cleveland Monsters News Release

CLEVELAND - The AHL's defending Calder Cup Champions, the Cleveland Monsters, proudly powered by Constellation, defeated the Grand Rapids Griffins in overtime on Tuesday at The Q by a final score of 3-2. With the win, the Monsters improved to 9-11-1-1 overall this season and with a .455 points percentage, currently sit alone in sixth place in the AHL's Central Division standings.

The Griffins claimed a 1-0 lead on Tuesday when Kyle Criscuolo buried a power-play goal at 8:23 of the opening period, but top Monsters goal-scorer Oliver Bjorsktrand leveled things with an extra-man tally of his own at 16:08, assisted by Sonny Milano and T.J. Tynan, to make it one apiece entering the middle frame.

In the second, Grand Rapids netted the frame's lone goal, an even-strength Evgeny Svechnikov score at 10:14 that made it 2-1 for the Griffins. Freshly back from an extended NHL call-up, Markus Hannikainen pulled the Monsters even at two apiece at 11:40 of the third with a slick transition power-play finish, assisted by Dean Kukan and Aaron Palushaj, that ultimately forced overtime.

In the extra-session, John Ramage ended the game at 2:28 with his first goal of the season, a center-point power-play blast set up by Tynan and Milano that delivered Cleveland a 3-2 victory. Joonas Korpisalo improved to 3-3-1 between the pipes for Cleveland by virtue of a 22-save performance while Griffins net-minder Eddie Pasquale stopped 39 pucks in defeat on Tuesday in a game that saw the Monsters match a single-game season-high with three extra-man goals.

Next up for the Monsters, it's a Friday road tilt vs. the Manitoba Moose with full coverage, live from MTS Centre in Winnipeg, MB, underway at 8:00 pm on 99X and the Monsters Hockey Network.
