
Sound Tigers Open Training Camp Tuesday

BRIDGEPORT, CT â The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, will open training camp for the 2003-04 season this Tuesday, September the 23rd. The Sound Tigers will practice at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard Tuesday through Thursday from 10 a.m. until 12 noon and will begin a four-game, preseason schedule when they host the Worcester IceCats at Bridgeport's Wonderland of Ice this Friday, September 26th at 7:35 p.m.
31 players, including 11 who skated in Bridgeport last season, are on the training camp roster including Forwards Derek Bekar, Graham Belak, Martin Chabada, Evan Cheverie, Kevin Colley, Rob Collins, Blaine Down, Sam Ftorek, Nathan Gillies, Robin Gomez, Jeff Hamilton, Martin Kariya, Ryan Kraft, John Longo (of Trumbull, Connecticut), Cail MacLean, Eric Manlow, Preston Mizzi and Neil Posillico; Defensemen Derek Byfuglien, Cole Jarrett, Alan Letang, Alain Nasreddine, Tim O'Connell, Tomi Pettinen, Aaron Power, Jody Robinson, Brandon Smith and Mattias Timander and Goaltenders Wade Dubielewicz, Dieter Kochan and Scott Stirling. Belak, Chabada, Down, Hamilton, Letang, Manlow, Nasreddine, Pettinen, Robinson Smith and Stirling played for the Sound Tigers last season.
The schedule for the first week of Sound Tigers training camp is as follows:

Wednesday, September 24th 10 a.m. â 12 noon practice at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard
Thursday, September 25th 10 a.m. â 12 noon practice at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard
Friday, September 26th 10 a.m. â 11 a.m. practice at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard
7:35 p.m. preseason game vs. Worcester IceCats at Bridgeport's Wonderland of Ice
Saturday, September 27th 9 a.m. â 11 a.m. practice at Bridgeport's Wonderland of Ice
4 p.m. preseason game vs. Philadelphia Phantoms at Skate Zone in NE Philadelphia
Sunday, September 28th To Be Determined
The Sound Tigers will also play Worcester in a preseason game at the New England Sports Center in Marlboro, Massachusetts on Friday, October 3rd at 7 p.m. and the Manchester Monarchs on Saturday, October 4th at 4:05 p.m. at the Winter Garden Arena in Ridgefield. The Sound Tigers will open the regular season on the road versus the Hartford Wolf Pack on Friday, October 10th and will host the Philadelphia Phantoms in their home opener at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard on Saturday, October 11th at 7:05 p.m.
The Sound Tigers are beginning their third season of play and first under the guidance of new Head Coach Greg Cronin.
