BRIDGEPORT, CT – The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, lost 3-2 to the Hartford Wolf Pack Sunday.

The Sound Tigers started the first period strong with a goal by Blaine Down, his second of the season, at 1:27. John Morlang received his first point of the season with an assist, and Cole Jarrett also assisted on the play.

Hartford's Garth Murray scored his first goal of the season off of a nice pass by Lucas Lawson to tie the game at 1-1 at the 5:33 mark of the first period. Defenseman Martin Grenier recorded his second point of the season assisting on the play.

Just 34 seconds after Sound Tiger Jim Campbell was penalized for interference 1:59 into the middle frame, the Wolf Pack's Jozef Balej scored his fifth goal of the season, on the power play, off assists from Lawrence Nycholat and Chad Wiseman. The Sound Tigers argued Balej kicked the puck into the net, but referee Wes McCauley ruled he did not.

Hartford upped its lead to 3-1 5:52 into the third period when Dominic Moore scored his sixth goal of the season off assists from Nycholat and Alexandre Giroux.

Trying to redeem himself after his penalty in the second period lead to a Hartford power-play goal, Campbell scored his third goal of the season off an assist from Keith Aldridge with 7:03 left to play to cut the Wolf Pack lead to 3-2.

The Sound Tigers pulled goaltender Wade Dubielewicz for an extra attacker inside the final minute of play but were unable to tie the game.

Hartford had a 24-22 shots on goal advantage, including 10-4 in the third period. The Wolf Pack were 1 for 3 on the power play and improved upon their AHL-leading penalty-killing percentage by going 4 for 4 when shorthanded.

Nycholat was the first star of the game. Former Sound Tigers Stephen Valiquette was the second with 20 saves. Sound Tiger Cole Jarrett was the third star of the game, notching an assist at forward instead of playing his usual position of defense. Dubielewicz made 21 saves in a losing effort.

The Sound Tigers will finish a four-game home-stand when they host the Portland Pirates this Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. They will begin a stretch of seven straight road games when they visit the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins this Friday, New Year's Eve, at 5:05 p.m. All games are broadcast live at www.soundtigers.com. Most games, including Friday's, are also broadcast live on 600 WICC-AM.
