Falcons win as 'Cats dodge shutout
December 26, 2004 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Worcester IceCats News Release
WORCESTER, MA - Worcester's Jay McClement broke the shutout, but the IceCats still lost to the Springfield Falcons 4-1 Sunday afternoon at the DCU Center.
Worcester outshot the Falcons 12-3 in the first period, but couldn't solve goaltender Jamie Storr. He wound up making 34 saves, and was only beaten in the third period by McClement with 2:46 left to go as the 'Cats had the extra skater on the ice.
Andre Deveaux scored twice in the second period to make it 2-0. Shrewsbury native Marc Busenburg collected his first two points of the season, assisting on Deveaux's second goal before scoring one of his own to make it 3-0 in the third. Former IceCats forward Derek Bekar sealed the Springfield victory with an empty net goal. Curtis Sanford was sagged with the loss and made 20 saves.
If not for McClement's goal, Worcester would have tied a franchise-record with their seventh shutout against. The Falcons won their fourth in a row after losing seven straight.
Worcester's next home game in Tuesday, December 28th against the Hartford Wolf Pack. Faceoff at the DCU Center is slated for 7:05 PM.
