Sound Tigers Fall in Season Opener
October 12, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Bridgeport Islanders News Release
Kael Mouillierat scored two goals against his former team, but it wasn't enough as the Bridgeport Sound Tigers fell to the St. John's IceCaps, 3-2 on Saturday night at Webster Bank Arena.
Three straight goals by the IceCaps did the Sound Tigers in, as Ben Chiarot, Scott Kosmachuk and Julien Brouillette all found the back of the net for St. John's. The IceCaps controlled much of the play in the second period, outshooting the Sound Tigers 13-6 in the middle frame.
Mouillierat scored the first goal of the season for the Sound Tigers just over five minutes into the game. After receiving a pass from Anders Lee, Mouillierat fired a shot over the glove of IceCaps netminder Connor Hellebuyck into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.
His second of the game came not six minutes later. After a big save by Kevin Poulin, the Sound Tigers broke out 4-on-2 and Lee found the trailer Mouillierat who buried it past Hellebuyck and made it 2-0.
However, it wasn't to be for Bridgeport, as the IceCaps poured on the pressure after that. St. John's fired 30 shots on Bridgeport's net through the first two periods, finally cracking Poulin in the third with Brouillette's wrist shot.
The Sound Tigers earned just one power play on the night, failing to capitalize with the man advantage. They were perfect on the penalty kill, going four-for-four on the night.
Poulin started the season with a strong performance in net, making 31 saves in a losing effort. Hellebuyck made 30 stops for St. John's.
The two teams will duke it out again tomorrow afternoon at Webster Bank Arena. Puck drop is set for 3:00 p.m.
Notes: Kael Mouillierat was named the second star of the game with two goals while Anders Lee was the third star with two assists...Sebastian Collberg was a +2 in his Sound Tigers debut...Jesse Graham was the other Sound Tiger to register a point, notching an assist.
