Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins' opening weekend woes continued on Sunday afternoon, as the Manchester Monarchs skated to a 4-1 win at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza. The loss was the second in as many nights for the Penguins, who were hosting the Monarchs in their season opener.
The Monarchs wasted little time in getting their season rolling, as defenseman Jeff Schultz, who recorded just two goals in 67 games with the squad last season, opened the scoring 27 seconds into the game.
Teammate Brian O'Neill, who led Manchester with 26 goals last season, opened his account for the new year at 12:35 of the opening frame.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton rookie Jean-Sebastien Dea brought some excitement to the arena by notching his first career pro goal at 8:37 of the second period. The score came on a delayed penalty call with the extra attacker on the ice for the Pens.
Vincent LoVerde reestablished the two-goal cushion less than two minutes later, and rookie defenseman Kevin Raine capped the night with his first goal as a professional at 12:33 of the middle frame.
Jean-Francoise Berube made 22 saves in the win for Manchester, while Jeff Zatkoff stopped 10 of 14 shots he faced on the night.
The Penguins hit the road for their next three contests, with a pair of games in St. John's against the IceCaps on Friday and Saturday nights, before wrapping up the trek in Albany against the Devils on Tuesday, October 21.
Individual tickets for all Penguins home games are available at the Mohegan Sun Arena Box Office, online at TicketMaster.com, or by calling 800-745-3000.
Penguins season tickets, including full season, 22-game, 12-game and 10-ticket flex vouchers, are available directly through the Penguins ticket offices at 570-208-7367.
