October 12, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
St. John's IceCaps News Release

The St. John's IceCaps fell to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 6-3 Sunday afternoon at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, CT.

Harry Zolnierczyk had two goals and an assist while four other Sound Tigers recorded multi-point outings.

Eric O'Dell did his part for St. John's, scoring twice and adding an assist, while JC Lipon had a pair of helpers. Jussi Olkinuora made 28 saves on 34 shots in his first start of the season.

Just 48 seconds after the opening faceoff, the IceCaps jumped out to a 1-0 lead on O'Dell's first of the season. JC Lipon fed O'Dell at the side of the net, who caught Sound Tigers goaltender David Leggio off guard with a quick one-timer and gave his team a 1-0 lead.

The Sound Tigers evened things up minutes later on a power play. On a broken play Alan Quine was left alone in the slot and took a pass from Zolnierczyk before firing a low shot past Olkinuora to make it a 1-1 game.

St. John's wasted no time retaking the lead as O'Dell notched his second of the game just over a minute later. Carl Klingberg fired a shot on goal that was stopped by Leggio but O'Dell was on the spot to wrist the rebound home for a 2-1 IceCaps lead.

Bridgeport once again evened things up when Sccoter Vaughan sped into the IceCaps zone and slid a shot along the ice that got through Olkinuora.

Just 1:19 into the second period, the Sound Tigers surged ahead when Zolnierczyk beat a down-and-out Olkinuora to give the home side a 3-2 advantage.

Bridgeport extended its lead to 4-2 at 9:34 of the second. The puck bounced back to Kevin Czuczman at the left point, whose shot was deflected in front by Sebastian Collberg and past Olkinuora.

Czuczman scored midway through the third on a shot that took a weird bounce over Olkinuora's left pad to make it 5-2, while Zolnierczyk notched his second of the game at 12:30 to put the game out of reach.

Will O'Neill added a power play tally late on a nice feed from JC Lipon but that's as close as the IceCaps would come.
