Sound Tigers Double up Bruins 6-3

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (March 4, 2012) - Jeremy Colliton and Micheal Haley each scored twice and 12 different Sound Tigers recorded at least one point as Bridgeport defeated the Providence Bruins 6-3 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Sound Tigers improve to 31-19-3-3 overall. The Bruins fall to 26-28-3-3.

Providence took a quick lead just 3:26 into the game when David Warsofsky one-timed the first of his two power play goals past Kevin Poulin to give the Bruins a 1-0 advantage. The Sound Tigers answered 3:11 later when Jeremy Colliton battled in front or Providence netminder Karel St. Laurent to grab a loose puck and backhand it home for his 10th goal of the season to even the score at one. Scott Howes gave the Sound Tigers a 2-1 lead with 4:35 left in the opening frame. The Sound Tigers found themselves on the power play, and Howes deflected Calvin de Haan's point shot past St. Laurent to give the Sound Tigers a one-goal lead after 20 minutes.

Colliton netted his second goal of the game just 42 seconds into the second period. Rhett Rakhshani fought to earn control of the puck in the right circle of the Providence zone, then slid it to Colliton in the slot as his one-timer beat St. Laurent. Providence drew within a goal on the power play at 2:20 of the period when quick passes found Craig Cunningham open on the doorstep, and the Providence forward scored to make the score 3-2 in favor of the Sound Tigers.

The seesaw battle continued as the Sound Tigers answered at 5:13 of the middle frame. Kael Mouillierat carried the puck behind the Providence net and centered to Micheal Haley, whose one-timer sailed over St. Laurent's shoulder for his 11th goal of the season. Blair Riley increased the Sound Tigers lead to three goals 2:43 later. Tomas Marcinko broke up a clearing attempt by the left circle and fed Riley in the slot, who beat St. Laurent to make the score 5-2. St. Laurent was pulled at that point in favor of Adam Courchaine after allowing five goals on 17 shots. Providence netted its third power play goal of the night to draw within two goals at 10:57 of the middle period, as Warsofsky sent his second blast of the night through Poulin to cut the Sound Tigers lead to 5-3.

Just as Providence had done earlier in the game, the Sound Tigers used quick passes to score on the power play. de Haan found Tony Romano in the left circle, who sent the puck into the slot where Haley snapped it over Courchaine for his second goal of the night to round out the scoring.

Kevin Poulin made 20 saves to earn the win for the Sound Tigers, while Romano, Rakhshani and de Haan each posted two assists.

The Sound Tigers continue their four-game road swing on Tuesday night when they travel to DCU Center to face the Worcester Sharks at 7:00 p.m.
