
Stars Smother Heat, Win 4-1

Abbotsford, BC, Canada - The Texas Stars (25-28-2-2, 54 points) defeated th e Abbotsford Heat (31-22-3-2, 67 points) 4-1 in front of 2,403 fans at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre on Sunday. Texas goalie Tyler Beskorwany (9-14-0) paved the way to victory by stopping 30 of 31 Abbootsford shots, as the club ended an eight-game drought on the road. Left wing Luke Gazdic scored two third-period goals to help Texas pull away and improve to 11-19-0-1 on the road. Right wing Colton Sceviour had a power-play goal and an assist, as Texas picked up its first win in Abbotsford this season. Forward Francis Wathier also found the back of the net in the win. Abbotsford goalie Leland Irving (17-10-1) suffered the loss with 32 saves. Texas returns home to start a seven-game homestand on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. to host the Grand Rapids Griffins at the Cedar Park Center.
After a scoreless first period, Texas opened the scoring at 12:47 of the second period. Captain Brad Lukowich blasted a shot from the point and left wing Francis Wathier tipped the puck past goalie Leland Irving for the 1-0 lead. Right wing Colton Sceviour also has an assist on the power-play goal, Wathier's 13th goal of the year.
The Heat tied the game early in the third period, as defenseman Clay Wilson scored a power-play goal at 34-seconds of the final frame. His 12th goal of the year was set up by Krys Kolanos and Brian Connelly for the 1-1 tie. The Stars countered with their second power-play goal of the night, Colton Sceviour's 15th goal of the year. Jordie Benn and Scott Glennie each had an assist on the eventual game-winning goal at 5:57 of the third period for the 2-1 Texas lead. Left wing Luke Gazdic added two insurance goals to help the Stars pull away down the stretch. He scored his seventh goal of the year at 9:33 to make it 3-1 and he scored his eigthth goal of the year at 15:22 for the 4-1 final.
Texas returns home to take on the Grand Rapids Griffins on Wednesday, March 7th at 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays' game is an HEB Night, fans may bring any HEB store brand non-perishable food item to the box office and receive $5 off their ticket price. It is also a Winning Wednesday, if the Stars win, every fan in attendance will receive a free ticket to the game on Monday, March 19th at 7:30 P.M. against Abbotsford. The Stars will host Military Appreciation Weekend, presented by United Hertiage Credit Union. To honor troops over the weekend, Texas will be wearing camouflage jerseys that fans may bid on during a silent auction on the concourse for charity. Friday night, Texas will host the San Antonio Rampage at 7:30 P.M. It will be a 3-2-1 Night, featuring $3,00 domestic drafts, $2.00 sodas and $1.00 hot dogs. On Saturday, March 10th, the two teams will meet again at 7:00 p.m. at Cedar Park Center. The first 2,500 fans to the game will receive a Texas Stars camouflage hat, presented by United Heritage Credit Union. Also, fans may purchase the State Farm Family Four Pack, composed of four tickets, four hot dogs and four sodas starting at $48.
