BRIDGEPORT, CT - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, beat the Binghamton Senators, who started the game in first place in the East Division, 5-2 at home Sunday scoring a trio of special-teams goals and shutting down the top-ranked power play along the way.

The league's leading scorer Jason Spezza started things with a break-away goal, his 29th goal and AHL-best 105th point, at the 8:46 mark of the first period. The unassisted goal put Binghamton ahead 1-0.

The Sound Tigers tied the score at 1-1 with a power-play goal by Joe Tallari, the first goal of his professional career, off an assist from Jason Guerriero at the 10:02 mark of the opening frame. Only 1:40 later, the Sound Tigers pulled ahead to 2-1 with a four-on-four goal by Chris Campoli, his 12th goal of the season, off an assist from Bruno Gervais. With 5:10 left to play in a wild first period, Campoli made it 3-1 with his second goal of the game and 13th of the season on a five-on-three power-play with assists going to Gervais and Rob Collins. Campoli has scored four times in the last three games, including a power-play goal in each one of those contests.

Five minutes into the middle frame, Steve Regier scored his seventh goal of the season off assists from Collins and Matt Koalska upping the Sound Tigers' lead to 4-1.

Gervais made it 5-1 with a shorthanded goal, his eighth marker of the year, 3:30 into the third period off an assist from Justin Mapletoft.

The Senators closed the gap to 5-2 on Brian McGrattan's seventh goal of the season off assists from Greg Watson and Christoph Schubert with 4:31 left to play, but Sound Tigers netminder Dieter Kochan closed the door after that.

Kochan stopped 40 of 42 shots, including a trio of highligh-reel saves in the second period, to earn the first star of the game, Campoli was the second star and Gervais was the third. Binghamton goaltender Billy Thompson made 15 saves in a losing effort as the Senators had a 42-20 shots on goal advantage. The Sound Tigers were 2 for 6 on the power-play and 6 for 6 on the penalty-kill.

The Sound Tigers will host the Albany River Rats this Wednesday at 4:05 p.m. The game will be web cast live at www.soundtigers.com.
