Providence Bruins News Release
The Providence Bruins and Manchester Monarchs wrapped up their 10-game season series on Sunday afternoon at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Providence, with the Bruins skating to a 3-2 victory. The Bruins finished the season series with a record of 4-6-0-0. Sunday's win extended the team's season-high winning streak to six games. Providence killed off all four Manchester power plays, including a five-minute major in the second period. The Bruins are 111/124 (89.5%) on the penalty kill since February 4, a span of 26 games. The win improved the Bruins' record to 38-26-3-7 (86 points) on the season, putting the team in fourth place in the Atlantic Division. The Bruins are just two points behind the third place Lowell Lock Monsters. Providence has narrowed its "magic number" to clinch a playoff berth to eight.
Bruin left wing Andy Hilbert tallied the game-winning goal in the third period. The goal was his 37th of the season, and his second in as many nights. Hilbert is tied for second in the AHL in goal scoring, and tied for fourth in overall scoring with 78 points in 74 games.
Left wing Tomas Kurka notched his sixth goal of the year, his second in as many nights. Center Ben Guite posted his eighth goal of the season.
Providence goaltender Hannu Toivonen stopped 30 shots for the win. Toivonen has won six straight decisions, and is 27-15-3 on the season.
