Hamilton Bulldogs News Release

SYRACUSE, NY - Goaltender Yann Danis was perfect, stopping all of the 43 shots he faced en route to his 25th win and fifth shutout of the season, leading the Hamilton Bulldogs to a 3-0 victory over the Syracuse Crunch on Saturday night at 'War Memorial Arena at Oncenter'.

With the win, the Bulldogs pull three points ahead of the Crunch for the fourth and final playoff spot in the North Division. Through 73 games, Hamilton's record improves to 33-28-7-5, while Syracuse has a game-in-hand, playing in 72 contests with a record of 32-29-7-4.

After a scoreless opening frame, the Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the second period courtesy of their defensive corps. Dan Jancevski opened the scoring on the power-play just 1:12 into the stanza from Tomas Plekanec and Trevor Daley. Then at 12:20, Daley netted his sixth marker of the season and second point of the game to give the Bulldogs a two-goal lead. Antti Miettinen had an assist and Plekanec picked up his second helper of the night on the goal.

Rookie Corey Locke added an insurance marker for the Bulldogs at 8:46 of the third period. Raitis Ivanas took an initial shot that was stopped by goaltender Karl Goehring before the puck squirted loose to Locke who buried the rebound for his 16th goal of the season.

Danis now holds the franchise record for most wins in a single season (25) passing former Bulldogs' Jean-Francois Labbe and Steve Passmore. Danis also tied Eric Heffler for most shutouts in a single season (5) by a Bulldogs' goaltender.

Hamilton was solid on special teams, going 1-2 on the power play and 3-3 on the penalty kill.

The Bulldogs next game is tomorrow afternoon (Sunday, April 2) against the Grand Rapids Griffins at Copps Coliseum. Game time is 4:00 p.m. and tickets are available for purchase at the Copps Coliseum Box Office, at all Ticketmaster outlets, by calling Ticketmaster at (905) 527-7666 or online at www.ticketmaster.ca.
