Somerset Patriots News Release
Waldorf, Maryland - The Somerset Patriots (7-16, 49-44) ended a season-high losing streak with an 11-5 win over the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (12-10, 37-54) at Regency Furniture Stadium Sunday afternoon.
The Blue Crabs jumped on the scoreboard first for the third-straight game on Sunday. After Somerset stranded runners at third base in each of the first two innings, Tony Thomas put Southern Maryland ahead in the bottom of the second on an RBI single.
The Patriots took their first lead of the series in the next inning. Gabriel Bracamonte lined an RBI single up the middle before Michael Ohlman put Somerset ahead later in the inning on a run-scoring double-play groundout.
Southern Maryland tied it up in the home half of the third on a Joe Benson RBI single, but the tie was short-lived.
The Patriots put five runs on the board in the top of the fourth inning to take control of the ballgame. Justin Pacchioli, Edwin Espinal and Ohlman each had RBI singles in an inning that brought 10 to the plate, while Bracamonte added a bases-loaded walk and Will Kengor contributed an RBI groundout.
Benson put the Blue Crabs back on the board on an RBI groundout in the bottom of the fifth, but the Patriots would answer later in the 9th inning.
A two-out, two-run double from Espinal put Somerset up 9-4 before Ohlman (7) added a two-run home run for good measure. Southern Maryland got a pair of runs back in the bottom of the ninth, but did not complete the comeback.
Pacchioli finished the game 2-for-3, reached base safely five times and recorded an RBI and three runs.
Thomas Dorminy (W, 6-6) struck out nine batters over six innings while allowing three runs to earn the win. It marked the seventh-straight start in which Dorminy struck out at least eight.
John Hayes (L, 1-4) allowed five runs (four earned) over his two innings of relief to take the loss.
The Patriots now hop on the bus and travel to York, Pennsylvania to open a four-game series against the York Revolution. First pitch of game one Monday night at PeoplesBank Park is scheduled for 6:30 pm.
The 2019 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford continues on the road until Friday, August 9th when the Patriots return home to host the Sugar Land Skeeters. For tickets, stop by the box office located at TD Bank Ballpark, call (908) 252-0700, or visit www.somersetpatriots.com.
