New Britain Bees News Release
(New Britain, CT) - The York Revolution (17-5, 51-40) defeated the New Britain Bees (7-14, 42-48) 10-5 at New Britain Stadium on Saturday night and have now taken the first two games of a three-game weekend series between inter-division rivals.
New Britain starting pitcher Cory Riordan (4-6) suffered the loss after allowing six runs on eight hits (four home runs) in five innings of work, walking two and striking out one. York starting pitcher Mitch Atkins (7-4) earned the win, giving up four runs on six hits (two home runs) in six innings pitched, walking two while striking out three.
New Britain took a 1-0 advantage versus Atkins in the bottom half of the first inning courtesy of a solo home run to left field off the bat of 2019 Liberty Division All-Star Jonathan Galvez, his 14th big fly of the season, tops on the ballclub. The Bees tied the game at two in the last of the second when 2019 Liberty Division All-Star Logan Moore went yard with a solo blast to right centerfield, his sixth roundtripper in the second half of the regular season. The boys from the Hardware City took their second lead of the night at 4-3 in the middle of the third by way of a run-scoring infield single from Darren Ford that plated Rando Moreno after he led off the frame with a base knock and later stole his tenth base of the campaign, and a sacrifice fly produced by Galvez that allowed Ford to cross the plate, giving Galvez two rib-eye steaks in the matchup and 60 overall in 2019, leading all players on the New Britain roster. The base hit for Ford extended his hitting streak to 11 straight games (the longest active streak on the ballclub) and his on-base streak to 13 straight contests, both season-bests. After falling behind 7-4, the Bees cut the deficit to 7-5 after the fans stretched out their arms and legs in the seventh when Jared James drove in Moreno with a fielder's choice after Moreno led off the frame with a base knock while later swiping his second of game, part of five stolen bases for the home team overall, matching a season-high last set on August 1st in a 6-4 defeat at the hands of the Long Island Ducks earlier in this homestand. There was no comeback in the cards on this Saturday evening as the Revolution added three insurance runs in the last two innings to give the game its final score of 10-5. Ford, Galvez, and Moreno led the way offensively with two hits apiece.
The Bees conclude their series with the York Revolution at New Britain Stadium on Sunday, August 4th. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 P.M. It will be another YMCA Family Fun Day and Newington Day! Prior to the game, fans will be invited onto the field for an autograph session with the Bees. After the game, kids can take the field and run the bases! All Bees Kids Club members can also attend the game for FREE! It's the coolest club around and is FREE TO JOIN!
