
Solovyov Named Top Defenseman for 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship Division 1 âÃâ¬Ã" Group A

Minsk, BLR. -ÃÂ After competing and securing a Bronze medal with Team Belarus in the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship Division 1 - Group A, Saginaw Spirit defenseman Ilya Solovyov was named the Top Defenseman of the tournament held in Minsk, Belarus.
The 19-year old native of Mogilev, Belarus native scored a goal and added two assists and finished with a plus-three rating in the tournament.
Despite missing the last five games to participate in this event, Solovyov still leads all Spirit defense in scoring with three goals and 24 assists in 24 games. That also ranks Solovyov in the top 10 in the Ontario Hockey League in scoring among defenseman.
In the November NHL Central Scouting Rankings, Solovyov was rated as a 'C' prospect heading into the 2020 NHL Draft in Montreal.
Solovyov was drafted by the Spirit in the first round, 53rd overall, in the 2019 CHL Import Draft.
