Solar Bears See Point Streak End in 6-3 Loss to Mariners

PORTLAND, Maine - The Orlando Solar Bears (7-4-1-0) saw their seven-game point streak come to an end as the team fell in its first-ever meeting with the Maine Mariners (6-5-0-1) by a 6-3 score on Wednesday night at Cross Insurance Arena.

The Mariners struck first in the opening period shortly after a penalty to the Solar Bears had expired, as Dwyer Tschantz picked up a loose puck in the slot and jammed it past Martin Ouellette at 7:07.
Stefan Fournier tied the score at 1-1 for the Solar Bears with his first of the season at 8:38 after Chris LeBlanc slid a pass from the left corner to Fournier in the slot, who redirected the puck past Brandon Halverson.
Maine pulled ahead by two goals later in the frame with tallies from Dawson Leedahl (12:21) and Shawn St-Amant (18:08), putting Orlando in a 3-1 deficit.
Mathieu Foget brought Orlando back to within one goal early in the second period when Brent Pedersen poked the puck up to Foget in the neutral zone, and the forward made his way into the attacking zone before snapping a shot past Halverson at 2:18.
The Mariners re-established their two-goal edge with a power-play score at 14:25 after Drew Melanson fired a shot past a screened Ouellette.
Vincent Dunn netted his fourth of the season to bring the Solar Bears back to within a goal at 6:59 of the third period, but St-Amant added another score for Maine at 9:08 and Brycen Martin sealed the contest with an empty-net goal at 17:56.
Ouellette made 36 saves on 41 shots against in the loss; Halverson earned the win for Maine with 28 stops on 31 shots against.
