Growlers Name James Melindy Captain

ST. JOHN'S, NEWFOUNDLAND- Newfoundland Growlers Head Coach Ryane Clowe announced today that defenseman James Melindy has been named as the Growlers' first captain in franchise history.
"James is a tremendous player and person," said Clowe. "On the ice, he leads by example. Off the ice, he is admired and respected by his teammates, coaches and training staff and will be a catalyst in our community. He is a passionate player and a fierce competitor and I'm confident that he'll be an excellent leader during our inaugural season."
The 6'-3", 186-pound defensemen appeared in 11 games this season with the Growlers and has registered 1 assist and 40 penalty minutes. In 268 appearances in the ECHL the Goulds native has totaled 15 goals and 50 assists for 65 points and 618 penalty minutes.
Melindy, 24, skated in 60 career games in the AHL with the Portland Pirates and San Diego Gulls combining for 2 goals and 1 assist along with 100 penalty minutes. James was drafted #88 overall by Phoenix Coyotes in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
Zach O'Brien, Adam Pardy, Kyle Cumiskey and Alex Gudbranson will round out the leadership group for the Growlers inaugural season.
