Arkansas Travelers News Release

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS - Eric Sogard hit a grand slam in the seventh inning to give the San Antonio Missions a 6-4 victory Monday night over the Arkansas Travelers. Sogard's slam also sent the Missions to a 2-1 series edge against the Travs, winning the last two games in come-from-behind fashion. Trevor Reckling (L, 8-6) was unable to hold a 4-1 lead and took the loss after surrendering only his fourth home run.

The Travs finish their home stand 3-3 and fall to 6.5 games out of first place with 15 games to play. San Antonio took the 2009 season series from the Travs 7-5.

Sogard's grand slam, the third hit by a Travs opponent, handed the lead to the San Antonio bullpen whom the Travs had no success against over the last two games. Entering in the sixth inning for the first time, Evan Scribner (W, 8-4) threw two perfect innings striking out three. Gabe DeHoyos and Brandon Gomes (Sv, 3) each threw one inning as the Travs managed just three base runners in the last four innings.

Luis Durango reached in the first inning on a one-out single off the glove of Ryan Mount. Nate Sutton, playing third base, mishandled Logan Forsythe's chopper then threw wildly past first base for a double error that set up the Missons with runners at second and third. Craig Cooper drove in Durango with a hard single to center field. Reckling stranded Forsythe when Seth Johnston bounced into a double play.

The Travs built their lead against Ernesto Frieri beginning in the bottom of the first inning when Coby Smith hit a one-out single, and Nate Sutton followed with a two-run blast (2) over the right-field fence. Ryan Mount led off the second with a single and advanced to second base on a Flint Wipke groundout. Hainley Statia punched a single up the middle to knock in Mount to give the Travs a 3-1 lead.

Frieri, who finished five innings, walked Sutton to begin the third and he advanced to third base when Mark Trumbo's single dropped into left field. Sutton crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Hank Conger for a 4-1 Travs lead.

Reckling pitched mostly well throughout his appearance allowing just an unearned run over five innings. He retired seven of eight batters heading into the sixth inning, but Durango singled leading off and took second base on a wild pitch. It took two fly outs to bring Durango around as Forsythe moved him to third and Cooper knocked him to get San Antonio within two.

Two bloop singles fell in for the Missions in the seventh as Lance Zawadzki and Mitch Canham dropped base hits into center field. Then Reckling walked Jesus Lopez bringing up Sogard and he went deep to right on a 1-0 pitch giving the Missions a lead they never relinquished.

Time of game was 2:36 and the paid attendance was 3,817.

The Travs head to Tulsa on Tuesday morning to open a four-game series with the Drillers at 7:05 p.m.. Left hander Alex Torres (2-1, 3.60) will pitch for the Travs while Tulsa counters with Chaz Roe (7-2, 3.10).
