Springfield Cardinals News Release

Andrew Brown's walk-off homer helped the Springfield Cardinals complete the three-game sweep of the Corpus Christi Hooks on Monday night, delivering an 11th-inning shot for a 5-3 win at Hammons Field. The win for Springfield (26-29, 64-61) gives them a four-game winning streak and five wins on the six-game home stand.

Steven Hill opened the bottom of the 11th inning with a single to left, off Hooks' reliever Charlie Weatherby (0-3). Brown then smacked a 1-1 pitch over the right-field fence for the walk-off winner. The homer is his sixth of the year and his third on the six-game home stand.

The Cards got on the board first on Monday, as Corpus Christi starter Douglas Arguello walked back-to-back hitters to open the second inning. After a sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second and third, Jim Rapoport grounded a two-run double down the left-field line to drive in both Aaron Luna and Daryl Jones, making it a 2-0 game.

Trey Hearne, making his first start for Springfield since rejoining the club from Triple-A Memphis, was sharp in the first two innings, but allowed a three-run homer to Drew Locke in the third, as the Hooks grabbed a 3-2 lead.

It remained a one-run game until the sixth inning, when pinch-hitter Mike Folli slammed a home run to right-center field. His fourth homer of the year tied the game at 3-3.

Chuckie Fick (1-1), one of four Springfield relievers to work scoreless relief, earned the win with a scoreless 11th.

Hearne went just four innings in his first start back, allowing three runs on five hits in the no-decision.
