August 13, 2021 - Midwest League (MWL)
Beloit Sky Carp News Release
DAVENPORT, IA - Up 6-0 going into the seventh-inning stretch, the Beloit Snappers (41-47) gave up six unanswered runs to the Quad Cities River Bandits (58-28); however, the Snappers stopped the rally and won the game on a go-ahead two-run home run from Victor Victor Mesa.
The Snappers plated a pair of runs in the top of the second on a two-run home run by Nic Ready, his sixth of the year. Ready added a run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly, scoring catcher Dustin Skelton. Skelton drove in a run on a sixth-inning single to give Beloit a 4-0 lead.
Up by a decent margin, Snappers' left fielder Kameron Misner launched a moonshot into the Mississippi River, swelling the Snappers' lead to 6-0. However, the River Bandits didn't go down quietly. Quad Cities sent ten batters to the dish in the bottom of the seventh inning and scored four runs. In a 6-4 game, the River Bandits scored two in the eighth inning, but Beloit's right fielder Connor Scott threw out the go-ahead run to keep it tied.
The Snappers went down 1-2-3 in the top of the ninth, setting up a golden chance for the River Bandits to win the game. Tucker Bradley led the inning off with a single for Quad Cities. He moved to second with one out and advanced to third on a wild pitch. With the winning run on third and one out, Snappers' reliever Brady Puckett struck out Logan Porter for two outs.
Snappers' manager Mike Jacobs made the call to intentionally walk John Rave and Eric Cole to load the bases in the bottom of the ninth with two outs, sending Jake Means to the dish to try and win the game. Puckett struck out Means on four pitches to end the ninth.
The Snappers got a lead-off two-run home run from Mesa in extras to give them an 8-6 lead. Puckett got the final three outs of the game to cap the night with an 8-6 win for the Snappers to even the series.
Beloit's Top Performers: Skelton went 2-for-3 on the night with a double, RBI single, and a walk. Ready was 1-for-3 with three RBIs and a home run. Mesa had a two-hit day with the go-ahead home run. Misner extended his hit streak to 15 games and RBI streak to eight games with a two-run home run in the seventh. M.D. Johnson threw six scoreless innings with just one hit, but Puckett earned his sixth win after two scoreless innings.
The Snappers are on the road in Quad Cities again on Saturday before coming back to ABC Supply Stadium to start a two-week homestand on Tuesday, August 17th. For more information on tickets or group outings, call our front office at 608.362.2272 or visit SnappersBaseball.com.
