
Snappers' Pitchers Silence 'Nuts

Beloit, WI- After a rainout Wednesday night, the Snappers and Lugnuts played a double header Thursday night at Pohlman Field.
The Snappers took game one, 2-1 after a solid start from Jason Wheeler.
The Lugnuts scored the first run of the game in the top of the second with an RBI double for Kevin Patterson, scoring Gustavo Pierre to take the early lead.
The Snappers rallied in the bottom of the second with a two-run single from Stephen Wickens scoring Steven Liddle and Drew Leachman, who both singled. The Snappers would hold on to pick up the win by the same score.
The Lugnuts starter, Blake McFarland went four and two third innings allowing four hits hits and two runs, while striking out six. Phil Brua relieved McFarland in the bottom of the fifth. Brua went one and one third innings allowing two hits and no runs.
Wheeler went six innings, allowing five hits and one run, while recording six strikeouts picking up his 11th win. Corey Williams relieved Wheeler in the top of the seventh picking up his 14th save of the season while recording two strikeouts.
In game two, Snappers' pitching staff combined for twelve strikeouts with newcomer, Mason Melotakis picking up his first win, 7-1.
The Snappers took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first with an RBI single from Miguel Sano, scoring Nate Roberts who walked in his at bat. Roberts advanced to second on a passed ball, and then stole third before Sano drove him in. Drew Leachman went on to single, advancing Sano to third base. Steven Liddle hit a two- run double scoring Leachman and Sano increasing their lead to 3-0.
The Snappers' Cole Johnson made his first start working three innings not allowing a single hit or run. Mason Melotakis relieved Johnson in the top of the fourth inning making his Snappers debut.
The Lugnuts starter, Aaron Sanchez had a shaky outing going three innings allowing five hits and three runs and walked two. Bryan Longpre relieved Sanchez in the bottom of the fourth. Longpre pitched two innings allowing one run. He was relieved by Aleson Escalante in the bottom of the sixth.
Melotakis pitched two innings allowing two hits and no runs, while striking out two. Dallas Gallant relived Melotakis in the top of the sixth, pitching one inning, allowing one run.
Miguel Sano crushed a two-run homer over the scoreboard extending the Snappers lead to 6-1 in the bottom of the sixth. This was Sano's fourth RBI of the night. Steven Liddle and Matt Koch hit back to back doubles with Koch picking up his 30th RBI scoring Liddle bringing the score to 7-1.
Ryan O'Rourke came in to close the game in the top of the seventh pitching a scoreless inning.
