Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, Ill. - Despite blowing three different leads, the Beloit Snappers never trailed in a 15-9, 12-inning victory over the Kane County Cougars on Memorial Day at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.
Beloit (30-21) couldn't keep a 1-0 lead, a 7-4 advantage and a 9-7 favoring, but they scored six times in the top of the 12th against Dean Espy (0-1) to finally put it away. Espy entered the game as a pinch-runner in the bottom of the ninth and played his usual first base before heading to the pitcher's mound for the 12th frame.
Matt Koch put the Snappers in front with a run-scoring double. Koch came home on a Tyler Grimes single while Miguel Sano later extended the Beloit lead with a three-run homer. Kane County (27-24) sent the game into extra innings with a dramatic flare against Clinton Dempster as Orlando Calixte ripped a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to make it 9-9.
Corey Williams (2-1) finished the ballgame for Beloit as he tossed two innings. Matt Summers started and worked five innings while striking out eight. Jason Mitchell got the nod for the Cougars and only lasted three frames. The two clubs combined for 41 hits in the contest with the Cougars pounding out 21.
