Clinton LumberKings News Release
Burlington, Iowa - The scoring started early and it came in bunches for the Clinton LumberKings as they snapped a four-game losing streak with a 12-3 win over Burlington at Community Field on Monday afternoon.
Clinton celebrated Memorial Day with offensive fireworks all game long as they scored four in the first inning for the second consecutive game. The first six batters that came to the plate against Raul Alcantara in the first inning collected hits. Ji-Man Choi got the scoring started with an RBI double scoring Mario Yepez who led off the game with a double down the left field line. Dan Paolini then stepped to the plate and laced a pitch back up the middle to score Dillon Hazlett and Choi. After a base hit from Jabari Blash, Steve Baron followed with a double to right, scoring Paolini.
Blash and Baron both collected four hits in the game. The four hits ties a season-high by a LumberKings hitter which also belonged to Blash in a May 5 game vs. Burlington.
After scoring once in the third inning, they were at it again in the fourth. The inning started with a walk to Yepez, then Hazlett followed with a two-run home run to left field, his first of the year. Choi followed with a single and came around to score on another two-run home run as Baron hit one out down the right field line. It was the second home run for Baron in as many days after not hitting any his first 40 games. Clinton pounded out 19 hits, eclipsing the previous high of 16 in a game at Great Lakes on April 26.
Clinton starter Trevor Miller was brilliant for the second consecutive outing as he allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits in seven innings. Miller did not walk a batter and struck out four. He hasn't walked a hitter since May 17 against Peoria. With the win, the right-hander improved to 3-3. Alcantara took the loss after allowing 10 runs, all earned, on 12 hits.
The LumberKings try to earn a series split tomorrow night as they send right-hander Ambioris Hidalgo (2-6, 5.29) to the mound. Opposing him is right-hander A.J. Cole (0-0, 9.00) for Burlington. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM.
