
Snappers Lose Despite Strong Pitching from Wheeler

Beloit, WI - The Beloit Snappers fell 2-1 in game one against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers despite a strong pitching performance by Jason Wheeler.
The Timber Rattlers wasted no time to get on the board in the top of the first when Greg Hopkins hit an RBI single driving in Brandon Macias, who singled. Nick Ramirez then grounded into a double play, but Carlos George was able to score to give them an early 2-0 lead.
Kennys Vargas crushed a solo home run to center in the bottom of the second, putting the Snappers on the board.
Wheeler went eight strong innings striking out a season-high ten batters scattering six hits, while walking only one batter.
A trio of Rattlers pitchers matched Wheeler's performance pitch for pitch holding the Snappers to one run on six hits.
DJ Baxendale pitched the ninth for the Snappers striking out the side getting all three hitters swinging.
The Snappers failed to rally in the ninth when Stosh Wawrzasek struck out two batters in the bottom of the ninth, picking up the save.
The Snappers and Timber Rattlers continue their series tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 P.M. On the mound for the Snappers is lefty, David Hurlbut, who is 4-5 with a 2.78 ERA in 81 innings pitched.
