Silver Hawks Win on Late Homer

Lake County Captains News Release


(Eastlake, OH) - The Lake County Captains (22-19, 53-57) fell to the South Bend Silver Hawks (21-20, 56-55) by a final of 7-6. Roidany Aguila pinch hit in the ninth inning, and with one runner on hit a game winning homerun to dead center. The two run homer put the Silver Hawks up by a score of 7-6. South Bend closed the gap to one game in the wild card race.

The Captains scored six runs in the bottom of the second inning. Lake County batted around and four hits in the inning including back-to-back homeruns by Jake Lowery and Leonardo Castillo. Lowery connected for a three run homer and Castillo added a solo homer. The homer by Castillo was his first since May 4th in Dayton. Lake County led the ballgame after two innings by a score of 6-0.

South Bend scored four runs in the top of the fourth. South Bend scored all the runs with no outs. Raul Navarro singled to lead off the inning, and was doubled home by Tom Belza. The score was 6-1 and Matt Helm walked to put two runners on base. Both runners came home to score on Ryan Court's fifth homerun of the season. The three run shot made it a 6-4 ballgame.

LHP Danny Jimenez (1-1) got the start for Lake County. Jimenez pitched six innings, allowing five hits, four earned runs, one walk and four strikeouts. Jimenez did not get a decision. Francisco Valera entered in the seventh inning and pitched one and two thirds innings, allowing two hits, one walk, and un-corked one wild pitch and allowed one earned run. Manny Carmona (0-1) pitched one and one third innings. Carmona allowed two hits, one walk and hit one batter. Carmona allowed the game winning pinch-hit homerun to Aguila.

RHP J.R. Bradley (6-7) started the ballgame for the Silver Hawks he pitched two innings, allowing five hits, six earned runs, and two walks. Bradley also surrendered two homeruns. Bradley did not get decision. The Hawks bullpen kept the Captains off of the scoreboard in six innings of relief. South Bend used a total of five pitchers in the ballgame. Seth Simmons (4-3) pitched two innings, he allowed one hit and struck out two. Simmons picked up the win.

On Sunday, Lake County will send RHP Roberto Hernandez (1-0, 1.80) to the mound to face RHP Tyler Green (3-6, 4.22). The ballgame will start at 7:00 PM.

Sunday will feature a post-game fireworks extravaganza presented by Discount Drug Mart. The first 1,000 kids who come to Sunday's game will receive a free Captain Underpants book, Captain Underpants and the Big, Bad Battle of the Bionic Booger Boy Part 1, from Scholastic and author Dav Pilkey who is a native of Cleveland. Captain Underpants himself will be making a visit to Classic Park on Sunday as well. It is also Family Fun Day and will feature a pre-game player autograph session, expanded in-stadium entertainment and activities, an enhanced Kids' Zone area with new inflatables including a new speed pitch and the opportunity for kids to run the bases after the game.

The annual Guns 'N Hoses Charity Softball Game will take place prior to Sunday's game and will pit the Lake County fire fighters against Lake County law enforcement agencies.
