Great Lakes Loons News Release
BOWLING GREEN, KY - Jesus Arredondo doubled to deep right field on an 0-2 count to drive in the go-ahead run in the top of the 11th inning, and the Great Lakes Loons earned a split in their four-game series with the Bowling Green Hot Rods with an 8-6 triumph Friday night.
Nick Akins hit two homers in the game and narrowly missed a third on a deep drive to left-center in the seventh. The back-and-forth affair saw the Loons took the lead five different times. O'Koyea Dickson and Arredondo finished the game with three hits each.
Bowling Green brought in closer Austin Hubbard in the 11th inning with the game tied at six. With one out, James Baldwin doubled off the wall in left field. Then with two outs and an 0-2 count, Arredondo drove in Baldwin with the go-ahead run. O'Koyea Dickson followed with a ground ball up the middle to score Arredondo with an insurance run.
Yimi Garcia entered in relief and struck out the side for his 14th save. Matt Shelton (2-4), who held the Hot Rods scoreless in three relief innings, qualified for the win.
After a scoreless first, Akins homered in the top of the second. Bowling Green countered with two runs in the bottom half of the second. In the third, the Loons re-took the lead on a Scott Schebler single and a Jeff Hunt sac fly. But the Hot Rods tied the game back up at 3-3 in the bottom half.
In the fourth, Arredondo doubled to give the Loons' their third different lead. BG pushed across two more to go up 5-4.
Akins' second homer of the ninth tied the game at five. Then in the seventh, Dickson slugged his 11th homer of the season to give the Loons a 6-5 advantage. Bowling Green tied the score 6-6 on Jake Hager's solo home run.
The Loons (18-21 second half, 52-57 overall) begin a four-game series at Dow Diamond against the Dayton Dragons (16-24, 46-64) Saturday at 7:05pm.
