Kane County Cougars News Release
BELOIT, Wisc. - Back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the third inning helped lift the Beloit Snappers to a 5-3 victory over the Kane County Cougars on Sunday afternoon at Pohlman Field.
Rory Rhodes connected with the first Beloit (17-13) blast off Aaron Brooks (2-4) as he crushed a ball just to the left of straightaway center. Tyler Grimes followed with a drive down the left field line to put the Snappers up by two. Brooks only allowed those two tallies on five hits in his six innings while striking out nine including five straight at one point.Jason Wheeler (4-0) kept the Cougars (14-16) off the board through six frames while surrendering five hits. Kane County never put a man on third until the eighth when Henry Moreno doubled home Lane Adams and Orlando Calixte, cutting the Snappers' lead down to 4-2.
Beloit tacked on a couple runs in the seventh off Malcolm Culver and one in the eighth against Robinson Yambati. Rhodes added an RBI single while Grimes scored on an Edul Escobar throwing error. Miguel Sano's sac fly in the eighth made it 5-2. Jorge Bonifacio singled in Runey Davis against Michael Tonkin (S, 1) in the ninth inning but was stranded at second to end the ballgame.
