Snappers Fall in Extra Innings

It was big trouble early on for starter Matt Tomshaw when he gave up an RBI double by Matt Williams in the top of the first giving the River Bandits an early 1-0 lead. Colin Walsh singled, then Tyler Rahmatulla drove in Williams on a sac fly, upping the River Bandits lead to 2-0.

The Beloit Snappers rallied back in the bottom of the second when Adam Bryant singled to lead off the inning. Hot hitter, Matt Koch then hit an RBI double scoring Bryant putting the Snappers on the board. The Snappers tacked on another run in the bottom of the third when J.D. Williams was hit by a pitch. A.J. Pettersen followed with a base hit. Drew pushed across Williams on a sac fly to tie up the game and

Quad Cities responded in the top of the fifth with an RBI single by Tyler Rahmatulla, scoring Luis Mateo, putting the River Bandits up 3-2.

The Snappers answered back with a three-run bottom of the fifth. Leachman hit a three-run homer scoring Williams and Lin, putting the Snappers up 5-3.

Quad Cities tacked on a run in the top of the sixth and seventh to tie the game at, which is where it would stay until the eleventh inning.

Nine innings wasn't enough on get away day as the team splayed into the eleventh at five. Clinton Dempster pitched the top of the tenth, after coming in to relieve Michael Tonkin in the top of the eighth. Dempster went three innings allowing one hit and no runs. Bart Carter later replaced Dempster in the top of the eleventh pitching one inning, allowing two hits and two runs.

The River Bandits scored two runs in the top of the eleventh when Garrett Wittel doubled off the wall in right, scoring. Wittel was thrown out trying for third on the play.

It was an eventful bottom of the eleventh when the Snappers tried to rally back. Williams doubled to get the momentum going, Leachman then singled to drive in Williams. Leachman then took second on a wild pitch by Heath Wyatt. With the tying run on second, Rosario hit a single, but Leachman was thrown out at home to end the game.

The Snappers fell for the first time in seven games, 7-6 against the Quad Cities River Bandits. They finished the home stand at 6-1. The first place Snappers hit the road for a three-game set against the Burlington Bees. Steven Gruver will be taking the mound for the Snappers Saturday night at 6:30 PM.
