Dayton Dragons News Release

Bowling Green, Ky.-Dayton starting pitcher Dan Jensen and two relievers combined to allow just four hits and the Dragons took advantage of four Bowling Green errors as they defeated the Hot Rods 3-2 on Friday night. The Dragons improved to 15-27 with the win as they avoided a sweep of the three-game series. Bowling Green fell to 23-19.

Jensen (2-3) worked the first six innings, allowing four hits and two runs with two walks and four strikeouts to earn the win. Reliever Carlos Contreras followed Jensen and retired all six batters he faced, notching three strikeouts. Kyle McMyne pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his first save. He allowed a one-out walk but retired the next two to end the game.

The Dragons took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, thanks to two Bowling Green errors. Jefry Sierra reached on a bunt single and eventually scored from third when Hot Rods third baseman Tyler Goeddel overthrew the first baseman after fielding a ground ball off the bat of Sean Buckley.

Bowling Green scored on Goeddel's RBI single in the fifth to tie the game, and they took a 2-1 lead in the sixth on a home run by Josh Sale.

Dayton scored the game's decisive runs in the top of the seventh. With one out, Junior Arias singled to left and Juan Perez walked. Ryan Wright singled to right to load the bases. Joe Terry then hit a hard ground ball to third that was fielded by Goeddel, who stepped on third for the force on Perez, and threw to first base for what would have been an inning-ending double play. But the throw was wild and Arias scored easily, while Wright scored all the way from first base on a close play as he slid home just before the tag to give Dayton the lead for good.

The Dragons finished with seven hits. Wright was 2 for 5 to lead the way.

The Dragons return home on Saturday to host the Great Lakes Loons at 7:05 p.m. at Fifth Third Field. The game will be televised on WHIO 7.2 (Time Warner Cable channels 23 and 372). Hall-of-Fame writer Hal McCoy will serve as guest commentator. Radhames Quezada (1-4, 2.93) will start for Dayton against Great Lakes' Ryan O'Sullivan (2-3, 2.90). The series continues Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in Dayton.
