Snappers Fall 5-3 against Cedar Rapids

The Snappers fell 5-4 Wednesday night against the Cedar Rapids Kernels.

Frazier Hall had the first hit of the night against starting pitcher, Matt Summers to get the ball rolling for the Kernels.

The Snappers picked up their first hit of the game in the bottom of the third with a leadoff double by Jairo Rodriguez. Wang Wei-Lin put the Snappers on the board with an RBI double, putting the Snappers up 2-0.

The Kernels' Andy Workman and Gary Mitchell hit back -to- back homers in the top of the fourth to put the Kernels in the lead 3-2.

Matt Summers in his sixth inning of work allowed a leadoff single by Andy Workman to start the inning. Things went from bad to worse when Mitchell hit his second homer of the game putting the Kernels up 5-2. This is the second time this season that Mitchell has hit multiple homers in a game. Summers was relieved in the sixth inning by lefty, Ryan O'Rourke. O'Rourke went two innings not allowing a hit or run, while striking out two.

Summers went five innings, plus part of the sixth allowing seven hits, five runs, four of them earned, while striking out two and walking two.

Cedar Rapids starter, Jairo Diaz was relieved in the bottom of the seventh by Michael Johnson. This was Johnson's eleventh appearance in relief for the Kernels.

Stephen Tromblee came in for the Kernels in the bottom of the eighth, Adam Bryant singled, but the rest of the lineup failed to get on base.

Corey Williams came in for the Snappers in the top of the ninth striking out one, not allowing a single run or hit.

Ty Kelley of the Kernels came in to close the game in the bottom of the ninth. A.J. Pettersen hit a leadoff single to start the bottom of the ninth Then, Jairo Rodriguez reached first on an error advancing Pettersen to second. Tyler Grimes was hit by pitch, loading the bases for Wang-Wei Lin with no outs. Lin hit a sac fly to right scoring Pettersen to pull the Snappers within two.

Unfortunately, the Snappers weren't able to pull out two more runs to tie it up in the bottom of the ninth, when Nate Roberts hit into a game ending double play.

The Snappers continue their series with Cedar Rapids at 11:00 AM on Thursday afternoon. It is the last of Snappy's School Days with discounted tickets for schools. Facing off will be Snappers' righty, A.J. Achter, who is making a spot start vs. Kernels' righty, Cam Bedrosian.
