MIDLAND, MI - The Great Lakes Loons battled back from two runs down on Wednesday night to defeat the Bowling Green Hot Rods 6-5 at Dow Diamond on a walk-off throwing error.

Tied 5-5 in the ninth, Loons third baseman Jesse Bosnik reached base on a single to lead-off the inning and advanced to second on a fielding error. Pinch hitter Pedro Guerrero followed by tapping a bunt towards third, which was picked up by Hot Rods pitcher Ausitn Hubbard, who tried to catch Bosnik at third, but instead fired the ball over third base into left field. The errant throw marked the team's seventh error and the game-ending play.

"I thought I was going to be safe [at third] off the bat," Bosnik said of the final play. "But I was going to go in there sliding regardless, because I knew [with the current situation] they were going to try and [go to third]. I gave it a good jump and thankfully they just threw it away."

The win ties the Loons with Bowling Green in the Midwest League's Eastern Division, each with a record of 24-22. With South Bend also losing Wednesday, the three teams are all tied for second in the division, which is the final spot that qualifies for the playoffs.

The Hot Rods scored first in the contest on a bases-loaded walk issued by Loons starter Jarret Martin. The Loons lefty allowed eight hits across four innings for three runs, adding only two strikeouts to his impressive season total of 54.

The Loons responded offensively with three runs of their own in the first four innings, but were set back in the sixth when the Hot Rods DH Tyler Goeddel hit a home run off of Joel Lima. Great Lakes scored runs in each of the final three innings to tie the game and eventually win. Scott Schebler led the team offensively with two doubles and two RBI, while O'Koyea Dickson also had two hits.

Raydel Sanchez and Mike Thomas combined to pitch the final three scoreless innings, allowing one hit each. Thomas picked up the win, his first. Hubbard was charged with the loss.

The Loons will host game two of their three-game series against the Bowling Green Hot Rods Thursday at Dow Diamond. Starting on the hill for the Loons is RHP Jose Dominguez (2-1, 3.00) against the Hot Rods lefty Felipe Rivero (3-3, 1.76). Fans at the game can enjoy one dollar hot dogs, 16 oz. Coke products and ice cream sandwiches as a part of the Loons $1 Family Feast Night, presented by Chemical Bank.

The Great Lakes Loons are a sixth-year Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers and are in the middle of their 5th Anniversary Celebration, which kicked off in August 2011 and will continue throughout the 2012 season.
