Lake County Captains News Release


(Comstock Park, MI) - The third inning sealed the win for West Michigan; the final was 16-4. Entering the inning, the Whitecaps led 9-3. When the inning was over it was a 15-3 lead. In the inning, the Whitecaps slugged two doubles and three singles. They scored six runs in the inning and jumped out to the 12 run lead. West Michigan pushed one more across home plate in the eighth inning to make it a 16-3 game.

The Captains scored three runs in the top of the first inning. Lake County did the damage by sending eight men to the plate on five singles and also scored a run on a wild pitch. After a half of an inning the Captains enjoyed a 3-0 lead.

The lead didn't last for long. In the bottom of the first inning, West Michigan put up four runs to take the lead. With two outs, and a runner on second base, Dean Green singled home the runner and Curt Casali walked to put runners on the corners with two outs. Aaron Westlake homered to right center and it was 4-3 West Michigan.

In the second inning, the Whitecaps added insurance to their lead. West Michigan scored five more runs to take a 9-3 lead. The Big hit in the inning was the second three run home run of the night for the Whitecaps. It came off the bat of Casali and that capped the inning and the six run lead.

The Captains added a run in the ninth when the bases were loaded and one out, Alex Monsalve lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to make the score 16-4.

RHP Wilsen Palacios (4-3) got the win for West Michigan. Palacios went five innings he allowed eight hits, three earned runs one base on balls and three strikeouts. The Bullpen for West Michigan pitched a combined four innings of relief and surrendered three hits no runs and walked two and struck out five.

RHP Felix Sterling (2-3) got the loss. Sterling only lasted 2.1 innings and allowed five hits. Sterling allowed 12 runs all earned. He walked five and struck out one. Sterling also allowed two homers in the game. Mason Radeke's line was 2.2 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, K. Manny Carmona also pitched in relief. Carmona went 2.1 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2BB, 2 K. Francisco Valera finished off the Whitecaps after pitching two thirds of an inning. Valera struck out two.

The Captains continue the series on Thursday night at West Michigan. The Captains will be on the road for seven games three games vs. the Whitecaps and four games in Lansing to take on the Lugnuts. Wednesday, Lake County will start LHP Elvis Araujo (1-4, 2.40) and West Michigan will counter with RHP Marcelo Carreno (0-3, 3.68).
