
Smokies win seventh straight

Birmingham, Ala.- Tennessee won its season high seventh straight game and handed Birmingham a 3-game sweep with 6-3 win Wednesday afternoon.
Smokies starter Tony Pena (2-6) held the Barons to two runs on five hits over 7 2/3 innings. He retired 15 of the last 16 batters he faced in earning his second straight win.
The Smokies offense heated up in the fourth against Sean Tracey. Jerry Gil delivered a leadoff single and Marland Williams tripled him home to put Tennessee ahead 3-0. Matt Morgan followed with a two-run homer, his second long ball of the road trip.
Casey Daigle recorded the final out for his sixth save and fourth in six days.
Tennessee opens a four game home series with Carolina Thursday night at 7:15. RHP Josh Johnson (6-2, 2.56) is scheduled to start for Carolina against a Smokies starter to be determined.
