Lookouts pound Braves

The Braves fell to the Lookouts 9-0 in the finale of a three-game series at Trustmark Park.

Matt Coenen (3.2 IP, 11 H, 7 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 1 K) fell to 2-4 on the year while Josh Hall (6.0 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, 4 K) improved to 2-1 in 2005 for Chattanooga.

The Lookouts got a run in the third on a single by Stephen Smitherman that plated pitcher Josh Hall and a run in the fourth on a double by Rick Asadoorian that brought in Brian Peterson, but they did most of their damage in the fifth.

Chattanooga put the game out of reach with a five-run fifth inning. Junior Ruiz led off with a walk and scored on a double by Jeff Bannon. Bannon scored when D'Angelo Jimenez reached on an error by first baseman Scott Thorman. Jimenez scored on a double by Smitherman, Smitherman scored on a single by Asadoorian, and Asadoorian scored on a single by Hall making the score 7-0 Lookouts.

The Lookouts added two more runs in the eighth when Bannon hit a sacrifice fly bringing in Gary Patchett and Kevin Howard scored when Jimenez reached on Thorman's second error of the night.

The Braves couldn't get any offense going as they totaled only five hits in the game.

The Braves will play the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx in a double-header tomorrow at 6:05 pm at Trustmark Park. Mississippi will send Brian O'Connor (4-3, 3.79) to the mound versus lefty Jon Connolly (2-1, 3.78) in game 1. Game 2 will see Mike Porzio (1-2, 6.00) face off against David Aardsma (1-0, 1.84).

Braves Bites: This marks the third time this year the Braves have been shutout. Josh Arteaga got a single in his first at-bat as a Mississippi Brave. This is the Braves' worst loss since the got shutout 11-0 vs MTG on 4/21.
