Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Biscuits (53-34) outhit the Tennessee Smokies (40-46), 12-7, but ultimately fell short in a 4-2 loss to their North Division rivals on Saturday night at Riverwalk Stadium.
Riley O'Brien (4-6) made his 10th start for the Biscuits and ran into trouble in the top of the first, allowing a lead-off double to Wynton Bernard and then a walk to Nice Hoerner to open the game. Jared Young, who hit his only three home runs this season in the first week of the season, climbed in next and hit a wall-scraping three-run home run over the left field railing to put Tennessee up 3-0 before an out had been recorded.
The Biscuit struggled to score against Smokies starter Jeffrey Passantino (1-0) in the first three innings, but finally cracked the right-hander in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI-triple from Brett Sullivan. The Smokies made it 4-1 in the top of the fifth thanks to a Charcer Burks sac fly, before Jesus Sanchez made it 4-2 with an RBI-single in the bottom of the fifth.
That would be all the scoring the rest of the way as Michael Rucker (3 IP) and Jordan Minch (1 IP) kept the Biscuits off the board, while Ivan Pelaez (3.2 IP) and Jhonleider Salinas (1 IP) did the same to the Smokies.
The Biscuits will try to bounce back on Sunday when an opener and Paul Campbell (3-1) take on Alex Lange (2-0) at 5:05 PM CT with a Lil' Crumbs Dress Like a Player Socks Giveaway. The six-game series concludes with Camp Day on Tuesday, July 9. 5:05 PM CT.
