
Smokies Drop Series Finale to BayBears

SEVIERVILLE, TNÂ Â -Â Â The Smokies were victorious in game one of Friday's doubleheader against the BayBears 9-1. However, they were unable to keep the offense going in game two, falling 4-2.
Tennessee jumped out to an early lead in the first game when Jason Vosler hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning, his 10th of the season. Vimael Machin singled home Trey Martin in the second inning to make it 3-0. Machin then added to his totals with another RBI-single in the fourth, scoring Martin and Jeffrey Baez. Zack Short doubled in Machin and Erick Castillo later in the inning, giving the Smokies a 7-0 lead.
Vosler continued his hot hitting with an RBI-double that scored Burks and Short, making it a 9-0 game at the end of the fourth inning. The BayBears scored the final run of the game on a solo home run in the top of the seventh to avoid being shut out.
Thomas Hatch started on the mound for the Smokies in game two. Hatch pitched a complete seven innings, giving up just one run on six hits. He did not walk any batters while striking out three. Hatch is now 5-3 on the season and holds a 2.87 ERA.
In game two, the Smokies once again put up the first run of the game. After going down quietly in the first two innings, Eddy Martinez and Martin jump started the offense. Martinez doubled with two outs and Martin singled to score Martinez to put the Smokies up 1-0.
Preston Morrison made his first start of the season in game two. Morrison pitched four innings, allowing one run on two hits and striking out two. Morrison did not walk a better in his outing. Ryan McNeil replaced Morrison in the fifth inning and pitched a scoreless inning to keep the game tied.
Scott Effross was the next reliever out of the pen, and he was not able to keep it a tie game. Effross gave up two runs in the sixth and gave Mobile a 3-1 lead. Effross gave up one more run in the seventh.
Down 4-1, the Smokies attempted a rally in the seventh. Trent Giambrone walked with two outs and Martinez knocked him in with a double. That was all the Smokies could knock though.
Tennessee and Mobile will meet for the series finale on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Oscar De La Cruz (5-5, 4.99 ERA) is scheduled to make his 11th start of the season for the Smokies. He will be countered by Griffin Canning (1-0, 1.35 ERA) for the BayBears.
