Jackson Generals News Release
MONTGOMERY, ALA. - The Jackson Generals won't see the Montgomery Biscuits again until late July, but the sour-dough taste of Saturday evening's 3-2 defeat at Riverwalk Stadium may stick around for some time. After gaining a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning, the Generals' bats went flat, unable to keep the Biscuits from rising up and stealing the series victory with a pair of runs across the next two innings. The setback drops Jackson 1.5 games behind first-place Chattanooga in the Southern League's North Division with only 16 games remaining in the First Half.
Following an unfortunately familiar theme, the Generals got strong pitching from right-hander Taylor Widener but could not do enough to come to his aid. Widener worked a season-best 6.2 innings, allowing only three runs to the Biscuits while striking out three and walking one and dealing 96 pitches. Kirby Bellow replaced him with a man on and two outs in the seventh, and Marcus Littlewood promptly threw out Mac James on an attempted steal of second base to close the frame. Kevin Ginkel debuted at Double-A with a scoreless eighth inning, stranding the bases loaded to keep the Generals within reach. However, Jackson fell for the fifth time in as many rubber matches this year, dropping to 12-12 on the road.
Timely hitting escaped the Generals' abilities on Saturday, as the visitors left eleven men on base and got only two hits with nine opportunities featuring men in scoring position. Galli Cribbs and Josh Prince both collected multiple hits, but Jackson bounced into three double plays and went 0-for-3 with the bases loaded to hurt their chances. The Generals are now 13-16 in North Division games since playing the Tennessee Smokies in early April, whom they will host for a six-game series beginning Sunday night at The Ballpark at Jackson.
