Smokies Announce Roster Moves

KODAK, Tenn. - The Chicago Cubs announced several transactions that impact their Double-A affiliate Tennessee Smokies. C Taylor Davis has been activated from the disabled list and placed on the Smokies active roster. In a corresponding roster move, C Chad Noble has been promoted to the Class AAA Iowa Cubs. Additionally, RHP Kyle Hendricks has also been promoted to Iowa and will be the starting pitcher for the I-Cubs tonight.
The Smokies roster is set at 25 active players, which is the Southern League maximum.
Davis, 23, was batting .217 (18-for-83) in 27 games for the D-Cubs this season. The right-handed catcher collected two doubles, a pair of home runs and eight RBIs. The Jupiter, Fla. native signed with the Cubs in 2011 after attending Morehead State (Ky.)
Noble, 25, makes his second trip to Iowa this season. In 28 games with the Smokies, he held a .242 batting average (22-for-91) with six doubles and seven RBIs. The Rockwell, Texas native was selected by the Cubs in the 37th round of the 2010 draft out of Northwestern University.
Hendricks, 23, was 10-3 with a 1.85 ERA (26 ER/126.1 IP) in 21 starts for the Smokies this season. His 1.85 ERA leads the Southern League and his 10 victories ranks him third. Hendricks was awarded the Cubs Minor League Pitcher of the Month for May and Southern League Pitcher of the Week for June 3-10. He was also named the starting pitcher for the North Division in the 2013 Southern League All-Star Game. Originally drafted in the eighth round by the Texas Rangers, the California native was traded to the Cubs, along with Christian Villanueva, for RHP Ryan Dempster in 2012.
