Evans, Hagens Lead BayBears in Romp over Barons

Birmingham, AL - The Birmingham Barons dropped game one of their five-game series against the Mobile BayBears by ascore of 9-1 in front of 1,753 fans at Hank Aaron Stadium.

Mobile would score the first eight runs of the game including five over the first three innings to take an early 5-0 lead. Nick Evans would lead the BayBears' offense with a two-run home run in the first and an RBI double in the third.He would finish 3-for-5 on the night with three runs scored and three RBI.

All five runs were scored against starter Scott Carroll (0-1, 9.95) although only two were earned over 3.0 innings.

Mobile starter Bradin Hagens (10-7, 3.36) kept the Barons off-balance for most of the night, allowing just two hits and striking out five over 7.0 scoreless innings.

The Barons would commit more errors (4) than they had hits (3) on the night. Keenyn Walker would finish with two of the three hits including an eighth inning solo home run, his third of the season.

With the loss, the Barons fell to 69-47 and 25-21 in the second half while Mobile improved to 62-51 and 23-21 in the second half.

The Barons will look to rebound tomorrow night as RHP Chris Beck (NR) makes his Double-A debut against top prospect Archie Bradley (7-5, 2.06). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM CDT.
