Knoxville Smokies News Release
SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. - The Tennessee Smokies, Class AA minor league affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, have added RHP Christopher Carpenter to the active roster in advance of the team's opener Monday night in Carolina. In a related roster move, RHP Marcos Mateo was promoted to Class AAA Iowa.
Carpenter joins the Smokies for the first time in 2010 after starting the season on the disabled list recovering from a sore shoulder. In 2009 he spent time with the Class A Peoria Cheifs, the Class A Daytona Cubs and with the Smokies. The Cubs drafted the Bryan, Ohio native in the third round of the 2008 MLB First-Year Player Draft.
Mateo was 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA in five relief appearances for Tennessee this season, striking out seven in only six innings of work. Initially signed by the Cincinnati, he was acquired by the Cubs in a trade for outfielder Buck Coats in 2007.
