Mississippi Braves News Release
Pearl, MS - In game one of a five-game series, the Mississippi Braves used a pinch hit single from Randy Gress in the bottom of the 11th to drive in Donell Linares and beat Mobile.
The two starting pitchers lit up the score book and kept runs to a minimum. Mike Minor pitched 7 innings of shut out baseball and struck out a team high, 9 batters. The Braves finally game Minor a run to work with in the bottom of the 6th inning. Alex Romero belted a solo home run off of Wes Roemer and the Braves led 1-0.
In the 7th, Minor had the bases loaded around him and struck out Jake Wald to end the threat. The Braves went to the bullpen in the 8th inning and Brett Butts came on and gave up an unearned run. Two Braves' errors allowed Chris Rahl to score and tie the game at 1.
The game remained tied after 9 and then went to extra innings. The Braves had something going in the 10th but had Conception Rodriguez thrown out while trying to go from 1st to 3rd on a single. The a double play ended the 10th.
In the 11th, Brandon Beachy sat down the Bay Bears in order and that set the stage for a walk off win in the bottom of the inning. The Braves led off the inning with Donell Linares getting hit by a pitch. Linares then went 1st to 3rd on an Eric Duncan single. Mauro Gomez was intentionally walked to load the bases and Randy Gress came to the plate as a pinch hitter.
