Charlotte Checkers News Release
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Derek Wilkinson, Head Coach and General Manager of the Charlotte Checkers, announced today that the team has agreed to terms with Kenton Smith and Brian Teixeira (TEX-air-a).
Smith returns for his third season with the Checkers and his sixth in the ECHL. A 5-foot-11-inch, 177-pound defenseman, he played in 66 regular season games and 13 playoff games last season with the Checkers. During the 2004-05 regular season campaign, he recorded 28 points (9g, 19a) and 71 penalty minutes. He scored five points (3g, 2a) and tallied 14 penalty minutes during the Checkers playoff run last season.
"Kenton was one of our leaders last year," said Wilkinson. "He's a kid who brings everything he has to the rink everyday and I'm thrilled to have him back."
"I'm excited to be back in Charlotte," said Smith. "It is one of the best places to play in the league and after the success we had last year, I'm really looking forward to this season."
