Ice Dogs renew affiliation agreement with Montreal Canadiens

Long Beach, Calif. - The Long Beach Ice Dogs announced today that the Montreal Canadiens of the National Hockey League and the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League will renew their affiliations with the Ice Dogs for the 2005-06 season, extending the agreement to its second year.

Last year the Ice Dogs received five players from the Canadiens; Cory Urquhart, Christian Larrivee, Matt Shasby, Olivier Michaud and Michael Lambert. Shasby was the leading defenseman in points on the team (22) while Urquhart was 6th in points (31). Larrivee and Lambert finished, 2nd (7) and 3rd (6) respectively in points in the playoffs. Michaud finished the season with 18 wins, a .918 save percentage and a 2.54 goals against average in 2314 minutes of play.

"We're extremely excited to work with the Canadiens organization again," said Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Malcolm Cameron. "They are the bench mark team in the NHL with Stanley Cup success and we look forward to grooming prospects to help them regain the Cup. We would like to thank Bob Gainey, Andre Savard, and the entire Canadiens organization for giving us the opportunity to develop prospects for them."

"It was a huge success last year and we wanted to continue to grow and develop our younger players in an environment that would prepare them for the next level."

The Canadiens are the winningest franchise in NHL history with 24 Stanley Cups since 1916. With last season's lockout over, the Canadiens will be taking the ice again in 2005-06. The Hamilton Bulldogs have reached the AHL's Calder Cup Finals two times and last year clinched a playoff berth for the eighth time in the nine years.

Cameron will be attending the Rookie Tournament in Ottawa in September, which will be represented by Florida, Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, and Carolina, giving him the opportunity to see potential future Ice Dogs firsthand.
