WINNIPEG, MB – The Blue Bombers gained some ‘star' power today with the signing of running back and aspiring actor Jarrett Smith.

Smith, 32, played six seasons with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (1998 to 2003) after signing with the team as a free agent out of the University of Waterloo. He was cut by the Ti-Cats prior to last year's training camp.

"He is extremely highly thought of by our coaching staff, both from a running back and a special teams point of view," said Bombers G.M. Brendan Taman.

"He plays the game at 100 miles per hour and will make a solid push for a roster spot with our club."

Smith left Waterloo as the school's all-time leading rusher. He gained 3,895 yards on 684 carries over five seasons. He led the CIAU in rushing in 1997 with 1,620 yards on 253 carries and was a Hec Creighton nominee as the country's top university football player.

The 5-feet-11 and 208-pound running back had one of his best seasons as a pro in 2002 when he played in all 18 games for the Tiger-Cats, including four straight starts. He was also a special teams standout with the Ti-Cats.

Smith has also starred on the small screen. He had roles in Second String, a made-for-TV movie shot in Toronto in 2000, and a remake of Brian's Song, filmed in T.O. in May 2001.
