Renegades set for 2005 Canadian College Draft
April 26, 2005 - Canadian Football League (CFL)
Ottawa Renegades News Release
OTTAWA â The Ottawa Renegades Football Club will have six selections in the 2005 CFL Canadian College Draft, set to take place Thursday, April 28 via teleconference call.
Ottawa has two first round picks, and one each in the third (20th), fourth (28th), fifth (37th) and sixth (46th). The Renegades second overall draft pick is complemented with the fifth overall selection in the first round, courtesy of last summer's trade with the Edmonton Eskimos.
The Renegades had a solid 2004 draft, with their two first round picks (David Azzi and Ibrahim Khan) each making an immediate impact with the team. Khan, an offensive lineman who hails from Orleans, played in 16 of Ottawa's games last season and started four. Azzi, a receiver, was active for eight, including the final five of the campaign.
Ottawa traded its second round selection to Calgary in exchange for Andrew Noel and Hassan Probherbs last year. The additional pick the Renegades collected from the Eskimos â through a trade that saw Ottawa acquire the two picks and lightning quick defensive back Korey Banks for Clinton Wayne and Patrick Kabongo -- was sent to Hamilton in February for veteran offensive lineman Pascal Cheron.
The 2005 draft gets underway at 11:30 a.m. Eastern time Thursday. The Renegades have six picks overall.
