Sluggo Is Turning Six

Eugene Emeralds News Release

EUGENE, OR - Our beloved mascot Sluggo is turning six and he wants to invite you out to PK Park to help him celebrate on Wednesday, July 15! Come out and help the Emeralds, and several of Sluggo's mascot friends, celebrate Sluggo's Birthday and watch the Emeralds take on the Hillsboro Hops. Sluggo asks that fans bring a new toy or gift which will be donated to the Riverbend Pediatric Unit. Sluggo's Birthday Celebration is presented by AAA Oregon.

"Sluggo truly believes that it is better to give than receive," said Allan Benavides, General Manager of the Emeralds. "Being admitted into the hospital is a very scary situation, especially for young children. So being able to collect stuffed animals, board games, toys, and dolls that help provide entertainment and comfort to them is a no brainer." Gates will open at 6 p.m., and collection bins will be located at both gates. Fans can also drop off their donations at the ticket office throughout the day.

During the game, the Emeralds and Kendall are proud to feature CASA of Lane County as the Kendall Community Spotlight. CASA, or Court Appointed Special Advocates, provides a powerful voice for abused and neglected children through dedicated volunteers. If fans are looking for a rewarding, professional volunteer experience advocating for vulnerable children they should be sure to stop by their table on the concourse during the game.

In addition to Sluggo's birthday, fans are reminded that Wednesday is Kids Eat Free presented by Carl's Jr. and Lone Pine Farms. Every kid 12 and under will receive a free hot dog, soda, apple and a voucher for a free meal at Carl's Jr.

This year the Eugene Emeralds proudly celebrate their 60th Anniversary. Since 1955, over 300 Emeralds alumni have made it to the Big Leagues. Our rich history includes players like Mike Schmidt, Bob Boone, Tom Gordon, Eric Davis and most recently 2014 AL Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber. For the 2015 season, the Emeralds have made a major affiliation change by signing with the Chicago Cubs. Season tickets, mini plans and group tickets for 2015 can be purchased at www.EmeraldsBaseball.com, by phone 541-342-5367 and in person by visiting the Emeralds Box Office located next to PK Park. Individual game tickets are on sale now.
