Canadians Swept By Volcanoes; Streak Reaches Nine

(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, B.C.) - A four-run outburst in the top of the 7th inning helped propel the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes (15-11) to a five-game series sweep of the Vancouver Canadians (8-18) on Monday night.

Vancouver starter RHP Clinton Hollon took the loss going 4 2/3 innings allowing three earned runs on seven hits to fall to 1-2 on the season. Volcanoes reliever RHP Luis Pino would manage his first win of the summer going four scoreless innings, striking out three to help Salem-Keizer improve to 13-2 over the past 15 games.

The Salem-Keizer offense was paced by 3B Miguel Gomez who went 2-for-5 with a double and three RBI while C Brad Moss went 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored. Vancouver saw newcomer CF Andrew Guillotte go 3-for-5 in the loss with his first professional home run in the 9th inning off of reliever RHP Ryan Halstead that made the final 7-3.

The loss, Vancouver's ninth consecutive, marks a new franchise record as the Canadians fall nine games back of North Division leading Everett with 12 games remaining in the first half of the Northwest League schedule.

Tuesday (July 13) marks the Canadians first off-day of the season which will be followed by a three-game series in Everett to face the Aquasox (17-9) starting Wednesday, July 14th. The Canadians return to Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium on Saturday, July 18th to open an eight-game home stand against Eugene (July 18-22) and Tri-City (July 23-25).
